Car repair in Alanya. Service station in Alanya. Note for car owners

Hello everyone!

Today I want to tell you what to do if you arrived by car to Alanya (Antalya, Turkey) and for some reason you need to do a car maintenance or car repair in Alanya.

Why are cars expensive in Turkey?

There is a problem in Turkey that perhaps not everyone knows about, it is the high cost of cars. Prices for cars, all other things being equal (brand, year of manufacture, engine capacity, etc.), are 2-2.5 times more expensive than in Kazakhstan and Russia. I will not write about other countries here, because the "spread" in prices there is even greater and more terrible.

And the whole point is that Turkey produces cars like RENAULT and CITROEN, not very good quality (this is if you compare with the Japanese and Germans). Officially, they of course produce a bunch of other brands, but that quantity is either very small (which is most likely), or is sent for export (which is very unlikely), or simply exists on paper (as is done in Kazakhstan).

It turns out that if your car is not RENAULT or CITROEN, then such a car here costs at least twice as much. And all because customs duties and taxes on the import of a car here make up 80-100% of the dealer price of the car manufacturer. Why this was done and why, I will not go into detail, this is a separate big topic. But I think this was clearly not done for the people 😊.

Why is car maintenance expensive in Turkey

Due to the fact that good cars that we are used to are expensive here and there are not so many of them out of the total number of cars present on the market, spare parts for them are very expensive (customs duties on imported auto parts are the same ☝️).

And due to the fact that there are few mechanics who know how to repair imported cars, the prices for the work of such mechanics are higher.

In general, it turns out that servicing your car in Turkey will be 2-3 times more expensive than doing it in your home country. Be prepared for this.

Based on the above, you should understand that you still have to try to find a knowledgeable specialist. I am sure that in your home country you will not trust every service station to repair your car either. I want to say that I have met tourists who were unhappy with the repair of their cars, as if in their home country they were repaired at the first service station they came across. So in Turkey it is even more difficult and mysterious.

The main problem is, of course, the lack of spare parts. Sometimes spare parts need to be ordered from abroad, which means it takes time. If you are not lazy and drive around different service stations, you will see a large accumulation of cars around these service stations. Most of them are waiting for spare parts. As everywhere, there are cases when a spare part ordered by VIN code does not fit the car and you have to wait again. In general, the situation is very reminiscent of the situation in the 90s and early 2000s in Kazakhstan. I will not write for other countries, I do not know how it was there, only from what I heard, and I do not trust the words of people I do not know well.

How to find and choose a service station in Turkey. Car repair in Alanya

There are a great many options for finding a service station in Turkey. But from my point of view, first of all, the following conditions must be present:

  • Trust - that is, to understand who will repair your car. Sometimes this can be understood after a short conversation;

  • Language of communication - so that the mechanic and you understand each other and can communicate. It is important to correctly explain the reason for your visit to the service station (knocking, creaking, where and after what it appeared, etc.);

  • Responsibility - so that the mechanics know what they are doing and are responsible. They have already done this or a similar car and they will do it until they do it;

  • Price of the service;

  • Mutual understanding - so that you can always turn to them for advice.

If at least one of the listed is missing, then there will always be doubts and misunderstandings. Perhaps each car enthusiast has his own selection criteria and many will disagree with me, but I see it exactly this way and in this order. It often happens that the cause of the malfunction is not on the surface and there are a great many reasons. Despite the availability of computer diagnostics, the indicated error does not always correspond to the problem. And you need to look for the cause, and not the consequences.

In Turkey, there is another peculiarity: car mechanics are highly specialized. For example, if you have a problem with the fuel system (for example, lack of traction or excessive fuel consumption), then first you will be advised to see a mechanic who repairs the equipment. The mechanic who repairs the equipment will not remove the equipment himself, but will send you to another mechanic who will remove it, and after repairing the equipment, will put it back in place. If there is a problem with the turbine, then the sequence will be the same. That is, the turbine mechanic (turbine repairman). will send you to remove the turbine, and only when it is removed and brought to him, will he repair it. And at the end of such a repair, if it did not bring positive results (and this can happen), then it is not clear which of them did their job in bad faith. And there will be no one to make a claim to, everyone will say that he did everything in the best possible way. But the car will remain unrepaired.

In the case of STO Baybars, everything is different.

Which service station do I recommend to those in Alanya

Those who follow my posts, including posts on social networks, know that I have already changed several cars here in Turkey. Basically, of course, I was lucky and did not have any major problems with the cars. But with the last of the cars, MAZDA 6 diesel, 2006, engine capacity 2.0, I certainly had to tinker. The main problem is that there are no masters for it. And the second is the lack of spare parts.

Моя Мазда 6, дизель 2,0
MAZDA 6

But anyway, I found the Beybars service station, and I recommend you contact them. The most interesting thing is that during my stay in Turkey, I often drove past this service station, but did not even pay attention to it. Local Turks from SANAY (something like a place where artisans and craftsmen work) recommended this service station to me.

The guys were able to find the cause of my car's malfunction, not right away, but they did find it. In principle, I have no complaints about the price of service either. Overall, I am glad that everything was resolved and I am satisfied with their work and attitude towards customers. Unfortunately, I am not able to tell you about other service stations in Turkey, since I only write about what I know from my own experience. I never write my posts based on other people's words.

So, I will write the main advantages of this service station below. Perhaps someone will not agree with my opinion, but this is what I think.

  1. The service station is located by the road, that is, to find it you do not need to do pirouettes, drive around the mountains and valleys

  2. they speak Russian, English, Turkish and German at the service station

  3. the mechanics take on many cars that local mechanics do not take on

  4. the service station provides most car repair services

  5. you can do chassis repair

  6. they provide engine repair services,

  7. general maintenance (change of fluids, oils, filters) is not a problem at all

  8. body work, painting and polishing of the body

  9. electrics and computer diagnostics

  10. priming and repair of the air conditioner

  11. if necessary, they can order spare parts for your car, before buying a spare part, they will offer you several options and agree on the purchase with you.

Of course, there are jobs they don't do, such as gearbox repair, wheel balancing, wheel alignment, and probably some other jobs that I don't know much about or I just can't remember right now. So that you understand, I'm not an expert in cars, I'm just a car enthusiast.

Considering the Turkish peculiarity of car repair, in the form of the division of labor that I described above, at the Beybars service station you can do everything in one place and the service station management will be responsible for the work, which is very important. And in Turkey, it's hard to find such a service, one might even say almost impossible.

I want to say that the guys are not trying to embrace the immensity, they just do their job. Despite the lack of turning and milling machines, the lack of repair equipment, they undertake car repairs. If necessary, they will send the car part to the appropriate, best of the masters and control the quality of their work.

The main advantage of this Beybars service station is that it seems natural and understandable to us - CAR REPAIR IN ONE STATION.

If you went to Alanya in your car, I recommend you save their address in Google maps. The service station is located on the border of Kestel and Mahmutlar (Alanya, Turkey).

Well, and to everyone who read to the end, I express my gratitude and wish you good luck on the roadх.
