3. Student residence permit
A student residence permit is issued in accordance with paragraphs 38 and 41 of Law No. 6458 on Aliens and International Protection. Category of foreign citizens who are issued a student residence permit:
- Foreigners who do not have a family residence permit and study in primary and secondary educational institutions (Students under the age of eighteen have the right to study in primary and secondary educational institutions with a family residence permit. If they achieve eighteen years old and continuing education in secondary schools, a residence permit is required.)
- Foreign students studying in higher educational institutions in Turkey on a bachelor's, master's, doctoral program or for the purpose of advanced training in medical specialties (TUS), advanced training in dentistry (DUS) are eligible to obtain a student residence permit.
A student residence permit entitles you to benefits when applying for a spouse or children of a student family residence permit. Other relatives do not have any rights when obtaining a residence permit.
Student Residence Permit Validity:
If the continuation of the study of a foreign student is less than one year, then the validity of the student residence permit cannot exceed the period of study.
Foreigners who come through government institutions and organizations to study in Turkey can obtain a residence permit, the validity of which is the period of their study.
Foreigners studying in primary and secondary institutions, whose living and tuition costs are paid by individuals or legal entities, with the consent of their parents or legal representatives, during the period of their education may have, annually updated , student residence permit.
Requirements for obtaining a student residence permit:
To obtain a student residence permit, you must comply with the requirements specified in paragraph 39 of the law on foreigners.
- Providing information and documents certifying the purpose of being in Turkey (paragraph 38 of the law).

- Providing information about the address of residence in Turkey.
Health insurance when obtaining a student residence permit.
International students applying for universal health insurance are not required to provide health insurance for the first three months from the start of their enrollment date. However, persons who fail to complete their application within the first three months of registration and become ineligible for universal health insurance must be covered by private health insurance.
The procedure for transferring students of higher educational institutions to a new department, faculty or university.
a) remain in force. In the event that the validity of the residence permit is less than the duration of the study, in this case, the validity of this permit will be extended for the period of graduation.
b) In case of transfer to an educational institution of another city, the administration of the governorship of this city will cancel the current one and issue a new residence permit, the validity of which will be the period of study.

Reasons for refusal to issue, annul or refuse to extend a student residence permit
- Failure to meet the conditions required for obtaining a student residence permit or in case of deviation from these conditions,
- Submission of evidence regarding the inability to continue one's education,
- Identification of facts of misuse of student residence permit,
- Having a deportation order or an active ban on presence in the country,
In these cases, the student residence permit is not issued, is canceled if issued, or is not renewed after the expiration date.
